Patriot’s Technology Training Center (an FFES partner) has invited Summit Scholars to speak to our students and parents about college preparation.
Summit Scholars is an educational advising company that services a community of students and parents who want to engage in comprehensive college preparation and planning. Summit Scholars are students on their way to reaching their own personal educational summit. They are becoming the very best students that they can.

COAT DRIVE
As you may know, we held a coat drive earlier this school year. Thanks to Fort Foote Baptist Church’s Missionary Ministry and several FFES parents and staff members we provided coats, hats, scarves and gloves to a lot of students/families. Unfortunately, we still have students in need of coats. If you have any new or gently worn coats that you wish to donate, please contact Ms Kindred.
We need the following sizes:
Girls… 7, 10 (need 2), 12 (need 2), M, 14, XL or 18,
Junior small
Boys…7 and 14

KUDOS to
Antonyo Stevens, Jose Rivera, Quran Barnes, Asmel Lopez and Maurice Harris. Thanks to Ms Amber Harrelson and Mr. Eric Henderson (team coaches) these five students participated in the Maryland FIRST LEGO League Tournament on Saturday, Jan 31st at UMBC in the Retriever Athletic Center (RAC). The RAC is UMBC's Basketball arena. Hundreds of students (and their families) who have an interest in technology and robotics attended the Maryland FIRST LEGO League State Tournament.
There were:
- 26 Junior FIRST LEGO League teams with great displays and projects
- Dozens of other exhibits
- 88 FIRST LEGO League teams of 4-10 kids who had worked for months to compete in four competition areas and try for a chance to go to the world championships in Atlanta.

FREE TUTORING PROGRAM!
H.O.P.E.
“Helping Our Pupils Excel”
A 16 week tutorial program to enhance and improve the grades and self-concept of youth in grades 3-12.
The weekly sessions are held
Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30pm
at the Oxon Hill Staff Development Center
Because we follow PGCPS decisions during inclement weather, our first session moved to February 3, 2009

Girl Power: Put Downs, Popularity & Cliques
Is your daughter worried about cliques and fitting in? Does she struggle with her interpersonal relationships with other girls? This workshop is designed to help girls understand why other girls may be mean, gossip, or reject them from activities. This workshop will include: 1) helping girls develop more effective ways of responding to difficult social interactions 2) learning skills for coping with the ups and downs of friendship, and 3) learning ways to feel better about relationships with other girls.

BLACK ENGINEERS OF THE YEAR AWARDS CONFERENCE

Join us on our 11th Annual Bus Trip to Baltimore, Saturday, February 21, 2009. Patriots’ Annual Bus Trip to Baltimore is a valuable experience for our students. We look forward to the 2009 conference, where hundreds of organizations will be available to help our youth focus on the importance of science, math and engineering and develop the necessary leadership skills to be successful in their future. Come join us and experience a unique opportunity to network with the representatives for future career and academic opportunities. The cost is $20 for members/Chaperones and $40 for non-members which will include transportation, lunch, and a T-Shirt and 2008-2009 PatroTech Science Club Membership which expires July 31, 2009.
